Street art workshop in Lisbon

In love with this urban art that unleashes the imagination, creativity, poetry and political stances of its authors? This activity is made for you: become the author of a street art piece yourself with a street art workshop in Lisbon!

1 – Lisbon and street art

Although it is roughly as old as humanity itself, street art as we know it today was born in Philadelphia, in the United States, in the 1960s. Crew names, messages, motifs, signatures, graffiti… In its early days street art was a furtive art form, not meant to last, but rather about claiming public space, often in invisibilised communities. At the time it was far less valued than today, and often associated with a poor, anti-conformist culture.

As cities became more concrete-bound and street art “professionalised” for some, it spread and gained more and more value — up to millions (e.g. the works of Banksy).

It is no exaggeration to say that Lisbon is today one of the most active and recognised European cities for street art. Between festivals, spontaneous walls, gigantic murals and big names rushing to deliver their art here, Lisbon loves and promotes this ancient art. During your stay you will be able to admire pieces by some of the best-known artists in the field — Bordalo II, Vhils, Mariana Dias Coutinho, Mr Chat, Blu… and many others, local or from all over the world.

2 – Your street art workshop in Lisbon

If you too would like to leave a trace of your visit to this marvellous capital through street art, in a legal setting and with the best guide, it is entirely possible — and even recommended! Whether you come for a family trip, a trip with friends, a hen or stag party or a team building, this activity will remain engraved in your memories.

How does it work? You meet your guide in the city, in a street where street art is allowed and fully authorised. He will explain graffiti techniques, provide all the necessary equipment — including the spray cans — and teach you the basics of street art so you can create your own original piece. A few drinks will accompany this moment of joy and originality. And since Travel to Lisbon never does things by halves, we have negotiated a discount on the workshop price for our travellers! To book this activity, see the end of the article.
